One of the longest running marathon events around, celebrating their 27th year in 2016. The Grand Raid offers a true point-to-point challenge in the Valais canton. With the full route starting in Verbier and finishing in Grimentz, you will climb about 5000m while completing the 125km route.
Shorter options are available, starting in towns along the route, but all races finish in Grimentz, and take in the Pas de Lona climb.
Logistics require some planning, but there’s a Swiss system for everything, so it’s possible to work out your transport to the start and from the finish via the event website. If you plan to race the whole event it is easiest to stay in Verbier, and have a bag with a good change of clothes sent to the finish.
There are big saving sto be made by entering early, so if you’re sure – register when you can.
The Grand Raid is a Swiss test piece, and should not be missed if you love marathon mountain biking.
