2010 Felt Alpine Assault – POSTPONED

The heavy rains in Eastern Australia have put this weekends Mountain Bike Racing under threat. Falls Creek recently received over 180mm of rain in a 24 hour period. Rivers all over New South Wales and Victoria have flooded, with some yet to reach their peak height. Many communities in Southern NSW are looking at evacuation, Queanbeyan was evacuated yesterday after the river essentially cut the town in two.

Finish Line Events, the event organisers behind the Alpine Assault, completed a full course assessment this morning with Parks Victoria and identified some unsafe conditions particularly around the river crossings.  The course itself is in a ride-able condition, however the recent heavy rains have resulted in substantial water flows which have rendered some river crossings as impassable. Severe restrictions on getting emergency vehicles to key remote locations means the event cannot proceed.

Finish Line Events will be facilitating a ride out of Falls Creek on Sunday morning for those who have already arrived or cannot alter travel plans. More information will be sent via text message by 11am on Saturday. A new date will be set in the coming days and this will be made public immediately.
