Mountains To Beach: Following Jo Battersby

I arrived in Thredbo around lunchtime. With brilliant sunshine, a cool breeze blowing, it was just the right weather for a ride. Having checked into my hotel, the River Inn, I waved goodbye to Tim (boyfriend and chauffeur) and got ready to roll.

My new dualie, named Scoot2, hasn’t ridden down here before, so she was about to get her first taste of the Australian Snowy Mountains. A quick stop by the river for a photo opportunity and then up the bridal loop. I was sure sucking in some lung fulls of air as i worked my way up the gravel, parallel to the chairlifts. Pausing, I watched a few downhillers carve their way down the gravel and then looped around to follow them back into thredbo village.

This evening I had dinner on the balcony of the Alpine Hotel with my new found friends, Greg and Russell from the ‘gong (Wollongong, south of Sydney). As happens when mountain bikers meet, we shared some laughs, swapped stories of adventures at Appin and Wingellgo, and watched the clouds roll in as the night air chilled our bodies.

Two sleeps until race day!
