The incessant rain that Sydney, Australia, has received this Autumn is wreaking havoc with mountain bike racing. While tomorrow’s Dirt Works 100km Classic is still set to run, the chances of the course being a sandy, gritty affair are very high. Two weeks previously, the highly anticipated SRAM Singletrack Mind Series was set to start in Awaba on April 17th. Heavy rains meant Race Organisers Fi and Joe from Chocolate Foot had to cancel the event, to prevent damage to the trails, and the participants themselves.
Thankfully, a new date has been found, as mentioned by their recent Press Release:
“Dear All
Many thanks for your patience while we’ve been working hard to find a suitable date to reschedule Round 1 of the SRAM Singletrack Mind Series.
After discussions with all parties involved and other users of the Awaba Mountainbike Park, we have opted for Sunday 27 November as the date for this rescheduled event.
“But that’s the traditional weekend of the Wannaride Spring Fat Tyre Festival” we hear you collectively say! …and you would be correct, but coincidentally our good friend Chris Wilson from Wannaride has decided to hang up his events hat while he follows his very worthy new path of studying land conservation (tree huggin!) and has handed the baton of this great event to us! We intend to keep the great vibe that has made the Spring Fat Tyre Festival a highlight of the MTB calendar. So, we are very pleased to announce that Round 1 of the SRAM Singletrack Mind Series will become ‘Round 8¼ ‘, in honour of the Spring Fat Tyre Festival, and by virtue of the new date will also be the Series Finale.
Thanks again for your support of our decision to postpone Round 1 and we look forward to seeing you all at Awaba in November, if not before!
Cheers
Fi & Joe”
