The Chain Reaction Cycles MTB Marathon Series is preparing for the second round of the 2011 series, with Llandovery, Wales set to make its debut as a race location on May 21-22.
The event will begin Mynydd Myddfai and will give riders in each of the four course options the chance to race along the edge of the Black Mountains, the Usk Resevoir, and the Sarn Helen Trail, an old Roman road. Those tackling the longer route will then ride sections of the Halfway and Crychan Forests, the latter renowned for its technical single track and fire road climbs. The route follow the Afon Bran down the valley towards Llandovery.
Organisers of the event have described the course as an “exciting mix of open hill, bridleways, forest roads, dual and single tracks, taking you into the Brecon Beacons national park and through some splendid countryside with stunning views of the Beacons and Black Mountains.”
Participants will have the option of four course options:
Mini-marathon: 25km, 600m ascent
Half-marathon: 48km, 1,050m ascent
Middle-marathon: 70km, 1,800m ascent
