WEMBO World Solo 24hr Champs

Our friends at Privateer traveled to Finale Ligure for the World Endurance Mountain Bike Organisation solo 24hr Championships this past weekend. While it’s a strange occurrence to have two ‘World Championship’ events in a year for the same discipline, the ‘WEMBO’ event is the first one, and had a great turn out.

Australia was well represented, which seems to be  becoming the norm. Not without some serious effort from the athletes and support crews involved of course. The event was won by Jason English in the men’s, and Jess Douglas in the women’s. Andrew Clark had a great ride to take the U23 title too.

Journalists from Privateer were on location:

“It was a great race and a feature on it will be taking pride of place in issue 10 of Privateer. To whet your appetite here’s a video we shot in between taking photos. As you’ll see the course was very tough; admittedly it was the same for everyone and there was a lot of descending but the regular short, steep climbs were impossible to ascend without going into the red, exactly what you don’t want when you need to ride for 24hrs. The riders loved though – as sixth place Phil Simcock says in the video, “This course is awesome.”

The WEMBO 24hr World Championships – with thanks to Privateer
