European XCM Championships: Malevil Cup

The starting lists are filling-up and we can expect a really interesting race at the European XCM Championships this weekend. To this date there are many racers registered  from almost 20 countries from all over Europe. Among those you can find Alban LAKATA (AUT) – 2010 World Champion and current leader of UCI ranking, Thomas DIETSCH (FRA) – World Cup winner in MTB marathon and European ex-champion; HUBER, PLATT, VERMUELEN. The women will be challenged by Pia SUNDSTEDT (FIN) – multiple European Champion, last year´s medallist Elena GIACOMUZZI (ITA), Sally BIGHAM (GBR) – the second woman in UCI ranking or Magdalena SEDLECKA (POL). The best chance among the Czech racers are attributed to Jiří NOVÁK from Hrádek nad Nisou who is practically in his home territory (he did an excellent job at the World Championship in Nové Město na Moravě this year) or to Czech ex-champion Jan JOBÁNEK. On the other hand Jan HRUŠKA will surely like to use Malevil Cup as a successful finale of his amazing biker´s career. Let us see who will take home the title of European Champion in MTB marathon 2012 from Lužické Hory.

But the Malevil Cup is a race that is not intended just for the biking elite. The agenda will comprise the MTBO race, bike sprint, races for children and handicapped. Included in the Malevil festival will also be the Czech Trial Cup.

The natural part of Malevil Cup will be “HOBBY” categories – routes of 100 km for men and 95 km for women; shorter routes 65 and 40 km for those who will not dare to the “royal master distance”.

The festival starts with the official opening of the Championship on Friday evening, June 15th. Major races at Malevil will take place on Sunday, June 17th, 2012

The weekend schedule will culminate in the afternoon at the Ranch Malevil near Jablonné v Podještědí by the ceremonial handing over the jersey to new European Champions in the category of men and women for 2012.
