The best training and riding tunes

Livigno

This is part three of three of a small series on music and riding. Parts one and two ‎are here.

I mentioned some favourite riding tunes in a diary update, so I thought it was about time to update that.

Luckily we’re never forced to stick to just 10 tracks when riding. But with a nod to Radio 4’s  Desert Island Discs, here are the 10 tracks I would take with my bike to my desert island. Which hopefully also has a nice singletrack loop on it too. Riding on sand is never that much fun.

There’s no theme here, other than that they’re all fairly lively tunes, which can be relied on to keep you going through a hard interval, or to maximise the buzz when riding a great trail. Some of these would have been on this list five years ago, and will be again in five years. Others are more transitory, having enough about them to maintain attraction for a few months, but nothing longer than that (number 9 being a prime example).

And some of these are on here because I really think they’re fantastic; others are more borderline but have a special significance because they remind of great rides, people or places. But is there any common ground with your top 10? What would be your picks?

1. Guns n Roses – Paradise City

2. Prodigy – Voodoo People

3. Deadmau5 and Kaskade – I Remember

4. Crystal Fighters – At Home (Pony Pony Run Run Remix)

5. AC DC – Highway to Hell (AC DC looking pretty geriatric here, but still making a lot of noise)

6. Ram Jam – Black Betty (a one-hit wonder if ever there was one)

7. Brad Sucks – Making me Nervous

8. Bloc Party – One More Chance

9. Avicii – Wake Me Up

10. Santigold – The Keepers
