The Maverick Marathon Series was launched in late 2013, as a response by four key Australian race organisers to provide a coherent Marathon Series in accessible venues for a large portion of Australian mountain bikers. None of the events are new, all are well proven and have their fans. Get points and compare and race your friends and foe over the year. 3 out of 4 events count.
Any pain will be rewarded by the single track in any of the four iconic races.
The first race in the series is the Capital Punishment, with a looming date of March 15th, the weekend after the Subaru Australian National MTB Championships in Bright. Fast and fun, Capital Punishment is a 100km and 50km mountain bike event and it is held right in Canberra. Capital Punishment is the only time where you can link together all the amazing flowing single track right across Canberra from Kowen Forest through to Stromlo Forest Park (43km of single track in the 100km and 24km of single track in the 50km). Capital Punishment is an achievable endurance mountain bike ride means you can push yourself to go that extra distance and even go for the 100km. And if you desire, you can stop and feast at the gourmet feed stations along the route to revive. The point to point format means you feel like you are on a tour and the free bus service at the end makes the logistics easy even if you are from interstate.
New for 2014, Capital Punishment offers something for mates. Punish Your Friend and you both get Money To Burn at your local bike store. All you have to do is sign up a Capital Virgin – a friend who hasn’t done the event before.
