How to ride steep MTB trails

Riding steep parts of mountain bike trails can be off putting, especially riding them ‘blind’ on new trails or in a marathon race you have entered. If you are on a designated MTB trail though, and not on some sort of wilderness expedition, chances are you can roll right down, with the right position and technique. Here, Subaru-MarathonMTB.com Team member Imogen Smith demonstrates how to roll into steep drop ins. You can practice this just about anywhere – you just need to remember to get your body position right, including looking up and through the obstacle ahead.

Start on something small, and work upwards from there. You might be surprised what your bike can roll through when you have your position correct!
