There’s always someone that stands out from the crowd, like the naughty kid at a family get together. The class clown. Rogues. Mischievous types. And the same goes for marathon racing – and not just the racers! While the sport does enjoy have loners, rogues who excell without the company of others, and who march to their own beat – the races themselves do too. Marathon MTB racers are too often typecasr as races that lack singletrack, or where technical ability isn’t required. The reality is far different Each race has it’s own character, and in this instance, the Kowalski Classic is rightfully known as a race full of singletrack. Quizzed just over the finish line, many might argue too much!

Of course, what mountain biker would truly say they had enough singletrack? The race winds through Kowen Forest and Sparrow Hill, linking together about 100km of singletrack in a circuitous course of singletrack made by the Kowalski Brothers. It’s tight in places, wider in others. Rough in some areas, and buffed smooth elsewhere. It’s the 100km marathon race that thumbs it’s nose at those who say marathon races never have enough singletrack!
