Protective Bike Four Peaks in 2015

- (c) Henning Angerer

With a race organisation motto of ‘four days of concentrated mountain bike passion in a unique scenery’, the Protective BIKE Four Peaks recipe is off to a pretty enticing start. For 2015, the finished product is set to be an enthralling display of true European stage racing. Next year will see a re-invention of the popular race with Race Director Marc Schneider stating, “Every inch is brand new and red-hot!” Re-inventions can sometimes be fatal for races but considering the race started as the Trans Germany in its early years and has since transformed into the Bike Four Peaks with barely a blink of the eye, I’m sure 2015 will be a hoot and a half!

Things will kick off on 17 June 2015 and the 1000 strong field will travel on the newly formed route from Bad Kleinkirchheim, in the Austrian state of Carinthia, down to Weissensee. The route covers 260.79 kilometres and climbs 8,750 metres in elevation. Not all of which are fire road slogs though, with the route taking in the epic trails of the Nock Mountains and enchanting lakes and grand massifs of the Carnic Alps.

The organisational crew prides themselves on having a great mix of professional riders and ambitious amateurs riding together on a course that is both enjoying and testing for everyone. As you can see in the video from last years race, the Austrian hills are alive with snaking single track, and if 2015 is anything like last year, it is going to be a great success.
