Here are MarathonMTB.com we are all fans of the classic stage race that is Transalp. Perhaps it’s a love-hate relationship. None of us live in the Alps, and therefore a stage race that is so demanding in terms of climbing is a difficult proposition. But all of our riders also live on islands, and there is something very cool crossing borders into new countries just by pedal power.
Transalp can tear friendships apart, put a rift in a relationship, and destroy your body and your bike – if you do it the wrong way. But like all stage races, if you do it in partnership, you can reap fantastic rewards. Crossing the Alps in seven days of racing, staying in mountain towns, helping your team mate through, and letting them help you, is a joy. There are lows, but there will be tremendous highs. And there will certainly be Aperol and gelato in Riva.
