Get set for the AMB 100

One of the first races to kick off the Australian Marathon racing season is barely a month away. The AMB 100 will be held at Stromlo Forest Park on February 8th, 2015 – the day after round 4 of the Subaru MTBA National Series.

Mt Stromlo is one of the best purpose built mountain bike and multisport parks in Australia, with ample car parking, easy access, amenities, and a broad range of trails. Racing there is never truly the same, especially if race organisers use their imagination when deciding which trails to use for their courses. Perhaps the best example of this was the supremely difficult course set for the 2012 National XCM Championships, where Canberra local Andy Blair set a course that climbed the mountain three times per lap.

Martin Wisata will be setting the lap for the AMB 100, and given the heat in February, it can be harder to ride than it appears on paper. There are 1, 2, 3 or 5 lap options. The lap will range from 25-33km, depending on conditions at the time of the event. Wisata doesn’t want to create a nightmare afterall.

Racing can be solo or pairs, but either way it’s a challenging day out on some of the best trails in south eastern Australia. The race is sponsored by Australian Mountain Bike magazine, the largest mountain bike magazine in Australia. They will have a tent onsite with past issues, test bikes, and their latest February issue.

Full event details are available via Rocky Trail Entertainment, who run the race. See you there!
