Milton Ramos wins Iron Bike ahead of Lizaso and Bekkenk

Amongst stage race aficionados, the Iron Bike is known as the race for the hardiest riders – and those who like to walk. But what that also brings is access to amazing terrain at high altitude in the Italian Alps, and memories few will forget in a hurry.

The Iron Bike is over for Ramses Bekkenk and also in the last two days no one could beat Milton Ramos from Spain. Ramos won the general classification after eight hard days ahead of Joseba Lizaso and Bekkenk.

‘Yesterday was not that tough but on Friday we had a long day out and in the saddle which took us seven and a half hours for 89 kilometres which means not even 12 kilometres average speed. That’s partly to the fact that after a long climb there often is a technical descent in which we do not go that fast as in other races. I am broken now but satisfied with my stage win on the first day and the fact I finished this race and even made the podium. Number one and two were out of reach for me in this race. Now I have to see to get some speed again as next week I will be riding a road race with gravel parts in it called Slag om Norg.’, stated Bekkenk.
