There are no shortage of carbon mountain bike wheels on the market at the moment. But understanding what is a good wheel and what isn’t might not be as easy. We’ve just had a set of Curve Cycling’s 29er Race 30×30 XC Race wheels land at the MarathonMTB.com service course, and we’re about to get them setup for testing.
The rims are 30mm high and 30mm wide – which is probably stating the obvious given the name. And with Sapim CX Ray spokes, DT Swiss 240 hubs and aluminium nipples, they come in at a claimed weight of a scant 1390g.
Curve MTB Wheels – more than the sum of its parts?
From first looks they look promising. A 30mm width should mean a 2.0-2.2″ tyre has a great bag size, and the spoke tension feels high and even – and Curve Cycling have developed a name for their wheel building after all. The Dt-Swiss 240 hubs are a known entity, as are the Sapim CX Ray spokes.
Testing starts next week, and we’ll see how well they inflate tubeless, how they feel under riding, and most importantly – how they feel for racing.
Check back in May for a full review of the Curve wheels.
