Justin Morris: Before the Simpson Desert Bike Challenge

Justin Morris has set himself a challenge of completing the Simpson Desert Bike Challenge. It has been in planning for many months, and his training has seen him ride countless laps of Curl Curl beach, reputedly the softest sand in Sydney. The event is set to start on September 27 – but when Justin sent this to us – that was still two days of driving away.
“10 hours driving today to Coober Pedy from Adelaide. A funny feeling to still be a 2 day drive from the start of this race. The remoteness, isolation and spectacle of this race is already starting to ring true.”

“At the same time the challenges and fear of the environment we are venturing into is becoming more of a reality and inducing maybe a skerrick of trepidation from within this hardy explorer. Tomorrow we head to the outback post of Oodnadatta before the final push to the start line in the Purni Bore, NT.
Hoping the wet conditions on the Eastern side of The Simpson are beginning to clear up as mud was not something I had envisaged for a race across the desert!
GPS tracking for me for the week is here: http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=0KxjeT4GzZG9RFoCPGG2lzyZDrzclkFaY
