A True Transylvanian Biking Adventure: Faget Marathon Preview

 

In just under 2 months’ time Faget Marathon in Romania will play host to the UCI World Marathon Series. Set in in the foot of the Western Carpathians the race promises eager competitors a chance to experience a lush green race paradise. For many the race offers a great opportunity to visit somewhere new away from the usual European race scene.

 

On race day, 30th April they’ll two race distances on offer. To earn your shiny finishers medal you must either complete the short distance of 33 kilometres, being designed to make even a recreational rider fall in love with the hardship of mountain biking. For the hardened competitor the long distance with 77 kilometres and 2100 meters of climbing awaits. If you’ve raced Faget Marathon before be prepared to be surprised once more, and if it’s your first be ready for a surprising day.

 

Faget Marathon dares you to face a new biking adventure. Starting from the western part of the city of Cluj-Napoca, the two-wheeled adventure will begin by climbing gently into the Faget Forest that gives the race its name. In no time at all you’ll be surrounded by nature, climbing into the hills and low mountains that are as harsh as they are beautiful. All the energy spent riding uphill is rewarded with idyllic scenery and beautiful trails.

 

 

Faget Marathon’s stories and dramas will be caught on camera, the race being the only mountain bike marathon broadcasted live from Romania. The National Romanian television channel will be there once more to witness all the action.

 

Arrive a few days in advance or depart a few days later because the magnificent city of Cluj-Napoca is the place to visit for the quintessential Transylvanian experience!

 

The organiser will also run a UCI category 2 XC race in the same location, the Napo Cup on the Saturday, why not make a big weekend of world class racing? A wide range of competitors from several international countries have already put their name on the starting list including racers from Hungary, Germany, Great Britain and France. Entries remain open till 25th April.
