Sean Lewis and Niki Fisher powered to wins in the respective men’s and women’s Bundanoon Dash in New South Wales, Australia on Saturday evening.
The short 6 kilometre ‘dash’ acts as an unofficial prologue to Sunday’s main event, the Highland Fling. The race kicked-off at 7pm local time and saw many of Sunday’s eager competitors stretch their legs for the 50, 100 and 160 kilometre races to come. Reports from Bundanoon said the town is overflowing with the mass of mountain-bikers creating a carnival atmosphere.
For their efforts – around 11 minutes in Lewis’ case – both he and Fisher claimed $500 for their wins, with tidy $200 and $100 prizes going to the podium finishers.
The event also gave competitors an indication of what conditions may hold for them tomorrow. High temperatures and humidity are expected to greet the riders on Sunday morning.
