The Dolomiti Superbike will be changing its traditional date and will take place on the second weekend of July for 2011. Northern Italy is home to another popular cycling event, the Maratona des Dolomites, which clashed with the Superbike due to an acknowledged collapse in communications between the organisers.
The later Easter celebrations and the Sacred Heart Festival (a South Tyrolean Religious Holiday) on 3rd July compressed the available days for these two prestigious events. Along with other clashes, the new date has been set for Saturday 9th July, 2011.
The course for 2011 will be challenging as usual. Being raced in an anticlockwise direction racers will open their legs up on the Eggerberg climb. There are two distances to choose from ranging from 110 kilometres with 3,357 metres of climbing, and 60 kilometres with 1,591m of vertical gain. The start/finish town of Villabassa is well connected by rail and roads, and boasts a wide variety of comfortable and traditional accommodation options.
