Australian mountain-bikers will have another race option for 2011 after organisers of Australia’s SRAM Singletrack Mind Series have announced the addition of two new courses and a sixth round to the series calendar for next year.
Awaba State Forest, near Newcastle, New South Wales will host the first race of next year’s series, with Mount Annan Botanic Garden west of Sydney to host the penultimate round of the series. The series will offer marathon riders an excellent opportunity to prepare for the 2011-2012 marathon season, as well as the final races of the current calendar.
The addition of a sixth round comes after a successful inaugural season for the series, which serves up 7-8 hour enduro events in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.
All of the venues have year-round public access and feature extensive single-track sections. The Mount Annan round will offer competitors access to the professionally designed and built course there. Race organiser, Chocolate Foot, said they expect the final stage of the three-stage course to be completed in time for the September 18 event.
The series will again be supported by SRAM, with its companies RockShox, Avid and Truvativ joining Lezyne accessories, Hammer Nutrition, Nzo clothing, Muc-Off cleaners and lubes, Kenda tyres, The Body Mechanic, Mountain Bike Australia magazine as supporters of the events.
Castech Sports Technology will again provide the series with live-to-the-web timing services.
Entries for the six-round series will open in January with a wide-range of categories – including weekend warrior, junior rider, and novice enduro – open to competitors. Teams of three have also been added for 2011.
