The Gore Bike Wear TransWales has been introduced with a prologue marathon and Mini TransWales added to the event for it’s 2011 edition.
The two new features will compliment the existing seven-day stage event in August. Rather than a race, the event offers riders a combination of un-timed and timed ‘special stages’, designed to provide all riders with the challenge they are after.
The new prologue marathon is a 40 kilometre ride on the day prior to the beginning of the main stage event. Taking place on Saturday August 13, 2011, the event will also offer an optional special stage to participants. The prologue will be open to all riders, not just those taking part in the full TransWales.
The main, seven stage event will begin on August 14 and conclude seven days later on Saturday August 20 at Builth Wells, Wales. While organisers are yet to release full details of the route, they have indicated that it will cover the breadth of Wales and include some 15,000 metres of climbing over a total distance of 550 kilometres.
The event will offer a range of solo and pair categories, including: Open Pairs (18-39yrs), Vets Pairs (40yrs +), Mixed Pairs, Open Solo (18-39yrs) and Vets Solo (40yrs+).
in addition to the full seven-day route, it has also been announced that Mini TransWales options will be available for participants. This choice of two shorter routes will take in the first four days (August 13-16) or final four days (August 17-20) of the event.
Riders in both the TransWales and Mini TransWales events will receive the same event holdall and finishing jersey, as well as the same food and camping facilities.
The event will also receive considerable corporate support with Gore Bike Wear joined by the Mercedes-Benz Vito Sport as the presenting sponsor of the event. Gore will provide participants with the opportunity to test their new season garments during the event as part of their Try B4 U Buy concept.
