Fifth event added to the Real Insurance XCM Series, Powered by CycleNation

The Highland Fling has been confirmed as the fifth and final event of the 2011 Real Insurance XCM Series.

Organised by Wild Horizons, the Highland Fling is one of Australia’s most popular mountain bike events, attracting some 2000 riders.

“It’s great to have The Highland Fling as part of the Real Insurance XCM Series. It gives more riders the opportunity to do at least three events that will count toward their ranking,” said Theo Grobler from CycleNation.

Huw Kingston of Wild Horizons added “We’ve been discussing our involvement with CycleNation for some time and are really pleased to add the Fling into the Series. It not only gives the Elite riders something else to aim at but should be a lot of fun for all the riders measuring their marathon performances against their mates.”

The Real Insurance Cross Country Marathon Mountain Bike Series, powered by CycleNation, will include the following events:

Capital Punishment (Canberra) organised by AROC  Sport – Saturday March 19

Limited entries still available

Dirtworks 100km (St. Albans, Wisemans Ferry) organised by Maximum Adventures – Sunday May 1

Husky 100km (Huskinson, Callala Beach) organised by Blackheart Events  – Sunday June 19

Limited entries still available

Angry Doctor (Mogo) organised by AROC  Sport – Saturday September 24 – Sunday September 25

Highland Fling (Southern Highlands)organized by Wild Horizons – Saturday 12th November – Sunday November 13

Each event is comprised of a marathon and a half marathon distance. The marathon (90-120kms) caters for the serious and very fit riders with the half marathon (35-60kms) catering for riders of all abilities.

The aim of the Real Insurance XCM Series is to combine the biggest Marathon MTB events in NSW into a high profile series.

A total cash prize purse of $15,000 will be awarded to the overall winners of the different Series categories.

Whether you are an elite rider or a weekend warrior your results will be collated into a comprehensive Series ranking. For the first time in NSW you will be able to compare your performance against other riders across numerous events, regardless of if your ride for the podium, or simply for bragging rights.
