Final preparations for the inaugural James Williamson Enduro Challenge, which will take place at Wingello State Forest on March 13 are now complete, with organisers releasing the final startlist for the event with almost 500 riders due to take on the event.
The men’s and women’s startlists include a who’s who of Australian mountain biking. Andrew Blair (Swell-Redshift), Adrian Jackson (Merida-Flight Centre), Rockstar’s Shaun Lewis, Craig Gordon and Troy Glennan, and Niki Fisher (Giant) are among the names of top riders who will start on Sunday.
The event commemorates James Williamson, who passed away while racing at the ABSA Cape Epic in South Africa, in March 2010.
He will be remembered in the best way possible, with 471 mountain bikers taking on course options ranging from 13 to 75 kilometres. Funds raised at the event will go towards the James Williamson Development Fund, which will support the development of young Australian mountain bike riders.
Some of those future stars could also be present on the day, with the junior and sub-junior categories ensuring that the 4-11 year-olds get in on the racing action.
The main event will kick-off at 8:30am on Sunday. In addition to prizes for podium finishers the race will also include a king of the mountains competition, with points awarded at the top of the five kilometre climb that will punctuate each lap of the 75km race.
MarathonMTB.com will be on hand to provide reports from the days racing. If you would like more information about the race, or details on how to get to Wingello to spectate, please visit the event website.
