After finally cleaning the Dirt Works mud festival off my bike, its time to gee it up for the next race on the calendar. For myself it is a return to the sweet singletrack of Appin for the ‘Rock Wallaby 50km Enduro’ run by the good people at Chocolate Foot.
This race is associated with the town of Appin’s Bicentennial Celebrations. At the southern tip of Sydney, Appin was one of the first parts of Australia to be settled for agricultural use. A cool little village still remains and lots of bushland that the Wollongong MTB club have used to great success for sweet singletrack. I have raced a few times with the Wollongong club, who seem to have built up a reputation for rocky singletrack – true MTB courses. The old Waterfall course will be remembered by some of the older guard of the sport for its super duper rocky singletrack and awesome rocky technical descents. The Appin course which I have raced once before remains true to this legacy, tempered with some fire trail and some respite with some flowing single track.
With some notable riders absent at the Red Centre Enduro, the start list will be interesting. Perhaps there is an oppurtunity for a new comer to top the podium…
The event is also hosting a casual Fun Ride on the saturday so fun times for all riders on the schedule!
I’m excited to get racing again after bad luck at the Dirt Works, getting MTB miles in the legs will be crucial in preparation for the next round of the Real Insurance XCM series. The fun and technical race this Sunday is certainly something I’m looking forward to. Hope to see you out there!
