Next year will mark the 15th edition of the famed Craft Bike TransAlp powered by Nissan. Starting on July 14, 2012 and ending after eight stages on July 21 by the shores of the Riva del Garda. The race will cover new ground in 2012, including a new start town for the classic race: Oberammergau in Upper Bavaria.

“We are really happy to have brought one of the world’s most popular mountain bike stage races to Oberammergau and to co‐organize it. We would like to show all of the
participants and guests how varied biking can be in the Ammergauer Alps,” said Thorsten Unseld who is responsible for Culture and Event marketing at the Ammergauer Alpen GmbH.

“The region is unbelievably diverse. Due to our execptional pre‐alpine setting within Bavaria’s biggest conservation area especially the bikers will find a challenge for every level. That’s why Oberammergau so excellently qualifies as the starting point.”

From there the 2012 route will travel its somewhat traditional route via Imst to Ischgl before the participants arrive at a second new stage town. The race will be hosted by the municipality of Nauders in Tyrol, which lies between Finstermünzpass in the north and Reschenpass to the south.

The TransAlp field will then leave Austria and continue to idyllic Scuol, in the Engadin in Switzerland before they reach Italian soil. There the route will lead them via Livigno and Ponte di Legno to Madonna di Campiglio – a route reminiscent of 2010. As always the final stage will end in Riva del Garda, however the race is never over until you’re home from the after party.
