The countdown is on to the Ingkerreke Commercial Mountain Bike Enduro (14-18 May), and as the temperatures in the Red Centre cool down, the singletrack riding heats up with reports of new trails and plenty of grooming ready to make the 2012 edition of this popular stage race the one best yet. Have you booked your ride in the Brolga Award Winning* Ingkerreke Commercial MTB Enduro yet?
Trail update:
The president of the local MTB club – the Central Australian Rough Riders John Pyper says, “We’ve done plenty of work refurbishing the trails to the north side of town and around Kurrajong – they’re in pristine condition, better than last year.”
“We’ve also had a lot more rain recently meaning the desert is no longer red – it’s green and looks spectacular. So we’ll be doing a lot of pruning in the coming months to ensure the trails are clear and fast.”
“There are also some brand new trails in and around the Telegraph Station Precinct,” says John. “We held a 12-hour night race there recently, which was great riding.”
Plans are afoot for the 2012 stage race courses to include these new trails and Race Director, John Jacoby is particularly looking forward to rolling his wheels over them to just to check they’re OK. Stay tuned to the website for the new course maps. As usual, Jacoby will no doubt make sure the courses are sufficiently challenging. If you haven’t done a Stage Race yet, then the ICME is a great starter. The stages are a good length so that you can enjoy all of them without enduring too much fatigue, and you reduce the day to day travel logistics that involved with a traditional point to point Stage Race.
Note that the ‘Slow Poke’ Fees kick in after 5pm, April 14th, so worth getting entries in now.
