Only a few days to go now before the 2nd event of the Chain Reaction Cycles MTB Marathon Series powered by Mercedes-Benz Vito Sport will set up camp at the Selkirk Rugby Club in Selkirk on the 19-20th May 2012. This event will be the 1st road sportive / MTB marathon combined event of the season.
The round in Selkirk has established itself over the last few years as the most loved and talked about course of the series and will therefore be worth the journey. Our own Will Hayter will make the long journey up from London to fight it out in the UK MTB-Marathon Championships.
The weekend line-up:
The weekend will kick off with the 1st round of the VITUS Sportives powered by CycleOps Power which will offer two different courses – a tough yet rewarding 95mile long course which has more than 2600meters of climbing in it or the super scenic 47mile short course with around 1600meters of climbing in it. Both rides have an open start from 8.30 – 9.30am on Saturday and entries are still available. To find out more on the 3rd sportive of the season (including maps, course details and profiles) please go to the Selkirk event page on the VITUS Sportives event website.
With Saturday coming to an end at the pasta party Sunday’s focus will be on the CRC MTB Marathon which will have four different distances on offer. You can find all the details including course details and profiles on the Selkirk event page and in the news section of the marathon website. The 4 courses of the ‘non-competitive’ marathon will have a mass start at 10am.
As an extra event for this year’s Selkirk round the team will have the UK MTB-Marathon Championships taking place on Sunday as well. The racers will ride the same course as the long distance ‘non-competitive’ marathon but they will start a few minutes ahead and they will fight out the fasters UK rider over the marathon distance. The UK MTB-Marathon Championships start just ahead of the main ‘non-competitive’ field but will be separated by a couple of minutes / motorized marshal.
Not long now…how to enter?

Conditions on the ground
With the recent weather the UK enjoyed it is unlikely riders will have a ‘bone dry’ event up in Selkirk but luckily the vast majority of the Selkirk routes are run on stony tracks which should make for a fast and flowy ride. The weather forecast for the weekend is looking not too bad with Sunday being the nicest day of the weekend.
