Rock Wallaby: New course set

The second running of the Rock Wallaby Enduro by Chocolate Foot is running this Sunday 27th May. Last year, racers were greeted by a cold start, great technical trails, and a lot more work than was expected for a shorter marathon. The 2011 Rock Wallaby was certainly a great indicator that a Marathon race doesn’t need to be 100km to be hard.

Anyone living in Sydney, Australia, will know about the wet start to the year – and the Chocolate Foot event crew have been sensitive to this:

“Saturday brought us the news that the trails on the south side of the course are just too waterlogged to be any kind of fun despite the drainage work we put in earlier in the month. But, as they say, every cloud has a silver lining and with the collective knowledge of Appin’s trail gurus, WBMC, Google earth and lots of Kms under the knobs, we have crafted a very tasty course that contains some new sections of reclaimed and ‘refurbished’ moto singletrack as well as all the great stuff that you rode last year. The only downside is that we’ve brought the lap length back a little to around 22km, but after last year’s impressive DNF rate I don’t think that too many of you will miss that final 3km!”

In 2011, MarathonMTB.com Team member Justin Maddog Morris attended, and was in awe of the technical terrain. So if you think you’re pretty handy on the rock ledges and sand pits that typify Sydney mountain biking, make sure you enter and head along.

Entries are still available, and you can enter online until midnight on Wednesday.
