We are two and a half months out from the race and getting a good feel for the size of each race field. One thing is certain right now – if you have entered Veteran or Masters category and you have your eyes on the top step, you better put in a few extra sessions before race day as you are in for a real contest. We have a high proportion of riders in each of these age groups and a pretty even spread across race distances. Next in line is Super Masters and we all know older riders know how to hurt – so be prepared for the reality of being passed by a grey nomad (or Blur) at warp factor three!
THE FULL KOWALSKI (Circa 90-100km)
Get set to race through Sparrow Hill and East Kowen’s finest trails like you’ve never experienced them before. The Kowalski Brothers are in full swing building new links and diversions so expect oodles of flowing single track, all the cool descents that can be strung together and a few mongrel climbs to test your resolve and send your HRM to bleepsville. Smiles and grimaces.
THE HALF KOWALSKI (Circa 50km):
Worried that the full distance will overwhelm your good vibes receptors? Then take on the 50km option: shorter on distance, long on single track and high on excitement. Smiles.
WILL YOU BE CROWNED MTB ROYALTY?
Two special ‘race-within-a-race’ timed sections will attract their own prizes and glory. One climb and one descent in the course will have transponder timing points, so no matter where you are in the field you have the opportunity to try for a win. The riders with the fastest combined time for both climb and descent will earn the coveted crown of King and Queen Kowalski for 2012.
Lots of rock has been shifted by the Kowalski Brothers. Why? Because they like great trails, and the Kowalski Classic will showcase what they have done.
If you like the idea of trail building, why not join the fun?
