Australia’s largest mountain bike marathon and the final race in the 2012 Real Insurance XCM Series is set to go off with a bang on Sunday 11th November, in the town of Bundanoon.
The Bundanoon Dash on Saturday has become a feature of the Highland Fling race weekend and features a race within a race, the hotly contested local Battle of the Businesses.
The rider list was impressive with elite women Peta and Rebecca taking to the line. They were joined by one of tomorrow’s race favorites Andy Blair ready to warm up his legs. Andy Blair won the men’s Dash in a time of 10:37, whilst Peta Mullens claimed the women’s Dash.
It was a fiercely contested battle between local real estates, with the final hill sprint deciding this category. Todd’s Real Estate crossed the line claiming overall Southern Highlands business winner for 2012.
Over 2000 mountain bikers will be racing the Highland Fling in either the Half Fling, Full Fling, 100 Mile Fling or Flinging Threesomes. The range of mountain bikers residing in the Southern Highlands for this weekend is astounding – the depth in the elite fields is greater than just about any recent Marathon in Australia.
We will have race reports and coverage from the event going online from Sunday afternoon. If you’re racing – good luck!
