Day 3: Bike Buller MTB Festival

Bike Buller 2013 podium: Jackson, Van der Ploeg, Chancellor

The final stage of the 2013 Bike Buller MTB Festival confirmed the supremacy of both Paul Van der Ploeg in the Open Male and Jenni King in the Open Female categories.

Stage 3, the Corn Hill Crankfest, was a 20km XC with some killer climbs and technical descents. One of those killer climbs is named ‘the Medusa’, a tight singletrack with 11 tight switchback corners. The singletrack descent was a brutal one full of razorsharp rocks cutting open many riders’ tires. Riders started in two waves, fast and slow riders started with a 15 minute interval to make sure the field was spread out over a course with over 70 percent single track. Being a very short stage – it took winner Van der Ploeg only 1 hour 8 minutes – all the riders went hard from the start giving all they had left in their legs after three days of riding on the spectacular Mt Buller.
Having a chat with some of the other competitors after the finish, the overall conclusion was that it was a great weekend. With two XC events, a downhill enduro and a few shorter events for the riders that wanted to take it easy, the Bike Buller team can look back on a very successful MTB Festival.
There were no surprises in the race result today with both Paul Van der Ploeg and Jenni King taking another stage win and confirming that they are the rightful winners of the 2013 Bike Buller MTB Festival.
