The date for the 5th Südtirol Sellaronda HERO in Val Gardena is set. The Mountain Bike Marathon around the Sella Mountain Group in the Dolomites will take place on Saturday, June 21st 2014. The two tracks of 84 and 62 km were confirmed. Due to increased demand, registrations will start on Tuesday, October 22nd. Online registration opens at 11:59 pm Central European Time.
A maximum of 3,014 participants will be able to start in the long-distance race. The entry fee is Euro 70 if paid before November 30th, and will increase by Euro 10 each on January 31st and April 30th, 2014. Only registered racers will receive a HERO 14 – IT’S ME bamboo fiber eco t-shirt that can be worn starting this winter, ahead of the HERO 14 race. The garment is part of the HERO charity campaign: 3 Euro of the total purchase price will be given to the South Tyrolean Sports Assistance Program which furthers youth development in sport.
The HERO 2014 edition will be marked by the fairy tale figure of Gulliver, the friendly giant from the well-known book for youth readers. His shipwreck and arrival to Lilliput became probably the most adventurous of travels in youth literature. “There is a little bit of Gulliver in all of us!” says OC President Gerhard Vanzi. “Bringing that piece to life isn’t a function of age, but rather, of our love of adventure. Same goes for our Mountain Bike Race in the Dolomite mountains.”
Leading racers have called the Sellaronda HERO the hardest mountain bike race. The HERO OC will be hosting the 2015 UCI Marathon World Championships.
