The mountain biking on offer near Alice Springs in Central Australia shouldn’t be a secret any longer. Those who have been know it’s worth it. Those yet to travel to the red centre cannot truly experience the variety of trails on offer right from town. Rapid Ascent run the Ingkerreke Commercial MTB Enduro, and this stage race has been popular amongst the elite and enthusiasts of Australian mountain biking for some time.
In 2014, the Easter in The Alice Mountain Bike Muster will take place from 19-21 April 2014, with pairs categories, a singlespeed category and even a fat bike category. Perhaps what is most novel is the pricing. The RAce Director, John Pyper, wanted to have the cheapest stage race in the world. So entry is $100. For 4 stages! But if you are an U13, U17, U19 or in the Masters 60+ category, it’s just $10.
‘Easter in the Alice has got to be the cheapest multi-stage race in the universe!’ John Pyper.
We don’t know of a 4 stage race that is so cheap.
The four stages take place over the 3 days, and include:
25km time trial
25km night race
80km stage
50km stage
There is also a kids ride on the Sunday for anyone taking their family.
If you live in Australia you are familiar with the costs of travel – and this is where it gets really amazing. Tourism NT have packages of 5 nights accommodation and travel for $499. That’s unheard of, and flights alone would normally total more than $500 from any other Australian capital city.
