The final stage of the Du Toit Tankwa Trek follows a somewhat different format to that of other races; an unusually long neutral section of 25km precedes the stage proper of 61km. With a shorter stage and the GC battle not yet cast in stone, the fireworks were sure to be firing early on.
And firing they were, a gravel road start with a tailwind meant that the 1×11 gearing was soon spun out and the racing resembled that of something of skinny wheels on the tar.
Sahm took the Bull by the horns, and won the stage on his own. The real battle however was amongst the teams. Red E Blend put the hurt down in effort to try and wrestle the GC title off RECM and whilst they came away with the stage, RECM held onto the overall win. EAI had a good day and managed a stage podium whilst Contego Swift held onto their 3rd position on GC.
In the Altech Autopage camp an unfortunately slower start on my side, fortunately picked up some momentum and Hanco and I rode into 5th on the day again and thus retaining 5th overall on the GC.
The Ascendis Health ladies went 3 for 3 and took out the final stage and with it the GC whilst they were closely followed by the RECM ladies in 2nd place once again.
