The final stage of the Garden Route 300 offered much to play for. Just 2 minutes separated Contego and Biogen for the win and likewise just 2 minutes separated Altech Autopage and Squirt in the battle for the final spot on the podium.
To make matters more interesting just a kilometre after the neutral zone ended, the ascent of Phantom Pass would start, Craft had put R10 000 on the line for the first person, be it team or individual across the line.
With the Ginger Ninja’s years of road experience, as well as being able to start fast, he was definitely a contender. On the day it was however the solo rider, Timo Cooper, who went long and took the honours.
The race regrouped thereafter as we headed towards the real mountains inland.
After a hard fought battle, it was Contego who took their second stage win in as many days with Asrin improving once again to take second on the stage. It wasn’t enough to upset the experienced Biogen pairing of Knox and Evans who retained their overall lead to bag the title for the 2015 race.
Contego finished 2nd with Squirt rounding out the podium. Hanco and I defended our 4th position against an improving Asrin pairing who finished in 5th place.
