Wrapping up the Cape Winelands Encounter

With a fair sized lead and the final stage of the Cape Winelands encounter encompassing some of the finest trails that Welvenpas has on offer, Jarryd and I set off to really enjoy the last stage of the race.

Controlling the pace up the first climb on the start of the black route, Jarryd and I again managed to ride away. We kept it steady as the climb is a long one, and then managed to open up the gap further on the awesome trails back down into the valley. Rodeo and Cool Runnings really are highlights here and well worth making the trip out to Wellington for.

We kept on riding a steady tempo, enjoying the trails and maintaining our lead as we started the red route, a fantastic array of trails on offer here as well. We ultimately managed to win the stage fairly comfortably and with it the overall title at the inaugural Liberty Cape Winelands Encounter. This helped again bolster my wine collection following last weekend’s exploits!

I now have a couple of days of recovery before we start our next race, the Gravel and Grape. The event is also a new 3 stage event taking place near Worcester from the Goudini Spa. I will team up with Collin Noel from George and am looking forward to another great 3 days of racing.
