Weekend Racing Wrap

With just a week to go towards the 2015 UCI Marathon MTB World Championships in the Val Gardena, we can look at results to see who is getting some last minute racing in, who is tapering, and who clearly isn’t racing and is keen to show team selectors that they might have made a mistake. Here’s a look at some of the bigger races over the weekend.

Seewald and Schmidt win the Black Forest Ultra Marathon

Black Forest Ultra

On a cold, wet and muddy day in Souther Germany, Andreas Seewald was triumphant in the men’s Ultra distance event, ahead of Matthias Bettinger and Tim Boehme. Slike Schmidt won the women’s, while Bettina Uhlig won the marathon distance and Heiko Gutmann took the men’s marathon win.

All results are on Datasport.

Williamson and Adel win UCI XCM Malevil Cup

On the course previously used for European XCM Champs in 2013, plenty of racers went to the Czech Republic for this popular event. But it was Filip Adel who crossed solo for the win, and Catherine Williamson won the women’s.

Brendan Johnston and Brooke Rowlands win the Albury 6hr

Part of the Evocities Series, the 6hr race at Nail Can Hill near Albury, Australia, attracted some serious MTB royalty. In the men’s solo race XCM Champ Brendan Johnston won ahead of rising talent Tobias Lestrell and 24hr World Champ Jason English. Brooke Rowlands won the women’s.

Suess and Tschopp claim Swiss XCM Titles

Can you imagine lining up for a Swiss championship race? The field would be so deep! While Ariane Kleinhans lead for much of the race in the women, it was Esther Suess who attacked near the finish to win. Johan Tschopp came to the finish with Lukas Buchli, and bested him in the sprint for the national title.

Millburn, Aitken and Jacobs on the top step in Australian NCXS

Cyclocross, the rarely forgotten, and often claimed sibling of cycling. In the midst of the Austrailan National CX season, the series visited the hip heartland of Melbourne, where plenty of locals come out and race, and even more come out and watch and claim they would like to race one day, when they get their tubulars.

Chris Aitken took his first national CX win on Saturday, with Garry Millburn taking the top step on Sunday. Lisa Jacobs won both days, ahead of Melissa Anset.

Next up, Garry Millburn is off the to BC Bike Race and will be reporting for us here at MarathonMTB.com before his US and Euro CX mission.
