Ramses Bekkenk keeps scoring third places in Iron Bike as he finished that position in stage four, five and six. Because parts of the route are timed and in between you ride at a gentler place the bikers are most of the day out on their own.
The days are very long. On Wednesday for example, Bekkenk started at nine in the morning and finished at half past four. ‘I try to keep speed up as well in the parts of the stage which are not timed as we also have to finish within a total time in order not to get penalty points. All together it is a points system of race points and penalty points which form the results. So late in the evening we get to know at which place we finished that day. Beside that this race is extreme hard it also brings you to great places where you would never come without walking. That’s why despite all the suffering I also enjoy this race a lot.’, stated Bekkenk.
