Sauser set to race The Legend of El Dorado

The Legend of El Dorado is absolutely delighted to announce that one of the Sport’s legends, Christoph Sauser, from race sponsors Specialized, has decided to race The Legend in its historical, first edition in Colombia 2016.

Sauser doesn’t seem able to retire properly yet. He officially retired after the 2015 XCM World Championships, but has since landed on the podium at the Leadville 100, and will also return to the Cape Epic in 2016.

Sauser met up with Race Founder Brian Murphy today at UCI headquaters in Aigle, Switzerland to celebrate the news.

“Somewhere new, somewhere exciting, somewhere untouched, it’s always what I’m looking out for, Colombia has it all, so when I sat down with the team and we realised just how much thought and care had gone into the Legend of El Dorado it was an easy choice to commit to the race in 2016. It’s obvious these guys know their stuff when it comes to race design; they have a real passion for all things Colombian that shone through.”

They want to give back as well which is really important to me. They want to set up acharity based on my experiences of working with Songo (www.songo.info). I’m really looking forward to this race, it’s the first one ever and it’s right in the heart of climbing country, I can’t wait to ride the Legend of El Dorado 2016.” Christoph Sauser.

The Legend has been in development for 2 years and its route covers 624km over 7 challenging stages with a staggering 18,000m of vertical ascent in the high Andes of Colombia, a true challenge for any cyclist, amateur or professional, as Race Founder Brian Murphy alluded to:

“The team have worked tirelessly over the last two years to create a race that has won the approval of a truly world class rider, Christoph Sauser. To have Christoph on board is truly amazing, this guy has raced with the best, beaten the best and is now coming to Colombia to ride one of the toughest races in the world, The Legend of El Dorado. We can’t wait to welcome him and his team in Colombia where I know they will be warmly received.” Brian Murphy, Race Founder
