Scapin have been hard at work on their 29er race hardtail, and Oraklo 148 is ready for delivery. Born for maximum stability and precision steering, and designed for competition and ideal for marathons, the Oraklo 148 takes its name from the rear boost standard and its monocoque frame is made from Toray T800 carbon fibre.
Aesthetically, the Oraklo 148 continues the Scapin design tradition, with a unique take blending form and function: seen sideways the frame highlights where the emphasis has been put. The aggressive top tube continues in a barely visible curve to the seat stays. The down tube has a sharp bend and angles, similar to those of a diamond, that become more obvious little by little as you look towards the head tube and the bottom bracket. The bottom bracket is pretty big, as it should be, but it doesn’t dwarf the chain stays, which and oversized and accommodate the post mount disc brake. The particular shape of the frame is designed to exploit the damping benefits of carbon fiber and, thanks to a custom made mix of fibres, to make it more flexible, hence more comfortable, and at the same time more resistant. The tests carried out on Oraklo 148 showed that its structure reacts better to stresses, with an increase of 13% at the front and 14% at the rear (compared to previous versions).
The major changes brought about by the Scapin R+D to are not only aesthetic but in the geometry. The seat tube angle has been kept constant in the middle sizes, but made ‘more harmonic’ in extreme sizes (S and XL) with the aim to adapt better to the physiology of the owners, for more efficient and performing position.
New geometry for the Scapin Oraklo 148
The experience gained with Oraklo 29″ and Spektro has led the Scapin engineers to slacken the head angle by 1°. The change has been made to all sizes, with the goal of a safe and effective position, especially on long descents. Finally, the BB was lowered (about 5 mm), so as to improve the stability of the bicycle and make it more manageable in sudden changes of direction. The rear stays, as a whole, are shorter than in the previous models for an even more responsive bike.
The Oraklo 148 is available in 4 sizes (S-M-L-XL), 3 colour combinations (Orange/Black, Gloss Black/Matte, Black/White/Red), 7 different set ups (including SRAM 12 Speed Eagle), 5 different Forks, 4 wheel Types.
Other specifications: it will be equipped with the derailleur with direct Side Swing mount, 148 mm boost, 12 mm through axle, 31.6 mm seat post, 1,290 gr indicative weight of the frame (S).
