The 2014 Cape Epic – in Summary

Related Event: ABSA Cape Epic

The ABSA Cape Epic is a brute of a race. Once you have won the first round against the race, securing an entry, you have almost a year of mental burden. You must train, you must be prepared. Do not take the Cape Epic lightly, as it will destroy you. Finishing this race in one piece is a testament to your skills in mountain biking, perseverance, mental strength, human relationships and culinary apathy.

Following the race is easy, if you have the time. The Cape Epic will have engulfed your Twitter and Facebook streams, crowded Instagram, and filled countless hours of office time via Vimeo and YouTube.

The Cape Epic dwarfs all.

The Cape Epic dwarfs all.

So, for the time poor, here’s an acrostic poem to cover the weeks worth of stages, linked to reports for those with more time!

Charging to the win for 650b and Merida Multivan in the Prologue,

Although the jerseys fall to Kaufmann and Kaess with a 2 minute lead.

Pattering rain creates incessant mud and new victors

Eventually Sauser and Rabon earn a win in strong winds.

Everything is worthwhile on the stage to Greyton,

Preparing minds and legs for the Queen Stage over the Groenlandberg.

Into the closing stages Topeak-Ergon and RE:CM lead men’s and women’s,

Captivating racing by Scott teams for line honours in Lourensford.
